Polynucleotides
Regenerative & Natural
What are polynucleotides?
Polynucleotides are powerful, naturally occurring molecules that play a crucial role in skin rejuvenation. Found within the nucleic acids of our cells, these molecules are known for their remarkable ability to heal and repair skin tissue.
Polynucleotides trigger the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin.
Collagen provides structural support and firmness to the skin, while elastin contributes to its elasticity.
Polynucleotides also calm inflammation and rebalance melanocyte activity to create an even and refreshed skin tone. They have already been in use for many years for the treatment of burns and skin ulcers.
Who is this treatment best suited for?
Polynucleotides are safe for most people and can be used anywhere on the face or body.
We use them mostly for:
Crepey skin/laxity
Undereye dark circles
Uneven skin tone & texture
Dry, dehydrated skin
How often should I have this done?
A course of 3 treatments 3-4 weeks apart is recommended initially. Maintenance is one session every 6-9 months.
Is there downtime after this treatment?
As the injections need to be placed very superficially in the skin in the correct layer for them to do their job, there will be visible bumps, swelling and sometimes slight itchiness & bruising in the area treated that gradually reduce over the following days.
How long does it take?
We use the most concentrated form of CE-marked PlinestÒ for most areas. This can be injected with needle or microcannula into whatever targeted areas are decided upon. The time taken depends on the method (ie needle vs cannula) and number of areas chosen.
Our most common area treated at Fitzgerald Private Clinic is the undereye area where the main issue is crepey fine skin.
We have the option of using polynucleotides with hyaluronic acid (NewestÒ) in areas away from the eye eg lower face and neck. This gives all the benefits of polynucleotides, as well as offering a quicker hydrating element from the hyaluronic acid.
We have also curated a treatment exclusive to Fitzgerald Private Clinic called [FPC Skin Trinity] that involves the combination of using SkinPen to microneedle polynucleotides into the skin, followed by a session of Dermalux LED light therapy to further enhance collagen stimulation and reduction of inflammation
What are the usual pre-treatment guidelines?
As for all skin treatments we ask you to remove makeup prior to arrival so you can get the most from your treatment time.
Skin must be free from infection, coldsores, acute inflammation so treatment can proceed.
What are the usual post-treatment guidelines?
The swelling will gradually decrease as the polynucleotides are absorbed.
We recommend avoiding touching your face and applying makeup for 12 hours (we keep a sterile cover up in our clinics if you need).
Keep skincare gentle and avoid strenuous exercise/excessive perspiration/swimming/saunas in the days post-procedure.
What are the main contraindications?
Anyone with true fish allergy (product is derived from salmon/trout).
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, current skin inflammation.
What is the difference between Polynucleotides, ProfhiloÒ & Skinboosters?
ProfhiloÒ remains one of our most popular treatments at Fitzgerald Private Clinic in our clinics with good reason due to the concentrated level of hyaluronic acid hydration being delivered to the deeper layers of the skin.
Skinboosters offer only short term hydration to our outer skin layers.
Polynucleotides work differently by altering the DNA of the skin cells and encouraging the skin’s natural mechanisms to develop healthier cells, so results tend to take longer to appear, but then last longer overall. These can also be safely used around the delicate eye area, where other injectables are usually not suitable.
Polynucleotides can be used alone, or in combination with ProfhiloÒ or any other treatment (safe spacing of treatments would be advised on an individual basis).
