Skin Concerns

Positive Ageing & Overall Rejuvenation

What is Positive Ageing?

Our change in appearance as we age can affect people in different ways. We feel that each and every one us should celebrate reaching every birthday milestone on this Earth. If something about your appearance bothers you eg sagging, wrinkles, volume loss, pigmentation, broken veins, it’s ok to ask what’s out there. As a professional clinic we like to approach all of our patient consultations with the ethos of natural or regenerative approaches. Often we advise doing nothing at all. If there is something potentially suitable for a person, be it skincare, in-clinic skin treatments or injectable options, we are happy to go through the honest benefits, limitations and risks at the time of consultation.

Where should I start?

A careful consultation including an Observ 520x skin scan with one of our team will help guide you on your first steps to improving your skin concern. We can assess your barrier, hydration, inflammation and more at this appointment. Ideally we pair this with a Doctor consultation to explore injectable options to rule them in or out of your mind. Information is power and we’re glad to say that we often end up doing much less than the patients request.

Skincare Options:

Home skincare is always most important and will be key to improving your skin, as long as your products suit your skin and its current condition.

It’s easy to fall for marketing, bold social media claims & ‘magic’ cures, we’ve all been there. Refocusing your time, commitment and budget to what will most likely work over time is a good place to start.

The Fitzgerald Private Clinic team is here to guide you through the process, often changing only one or two products initially, and gradually advancing your routine as long as your skin is responding well.

Skincare routines don’t need to take hours, we find the simplest, easiest to follow regimes with the correct choice of results-driven products work best.

Common skincare recommendations for overall skin rejuvenation:

Barrier repair with a gentle cleanser, simple moisturiser & sunscreen (ideally mineral-based)

Vitamin C serum in the morning, a retinoid at night, and daily SPF will help over time  for most. We can add advanced active treatments as time goes by, depending on how your skin is responding.

Supplements:

We don’t believe in spending money on unnecessary oral supplements. Diet and healthy lifestyle will always be the most important approach for each of us. With recent research, however, we are learning more about the gut-skin and gut-brain health axis, as well as some supplements that may reduce inflammation within the body.

Consideration should be given to commencing good quality Omega3 & Probiotics

In-Clinic Treatment Options:

These are not ‘one size fits all’ so you can discuss your goals, downtime preferences and what will suit your skin best at your consultation. Options will extend over time too as your skin health improves.

HydraFacials will give an instant glow. Mild peels such as Environ’s Cool Peel or more active peels such as Obagi Blue Radiance Peel are low downtime treatments.

Over time SkinPen Medical Microneedlin, FPC Trinity and Morpheus8 are other advanced collagen stimulation options.

Often overlooked, but very effective, is the use of Lumecca Peak IPL to help even out skintone (pigmentation & broken capillaries).

Dermalux LED light therapy is definitely worth considering, either as a standalone treatment or an add-on to any of the advanced treatments above.

Injectable Options:

Injectable treatments are not for everyone, but it’s good to know what’s out there for potential future options.

Profhilo would be our most hydrating injectable treatment.  Polynucleotides with hyaluronic acid (‘Newest) are another beneficial option.

Lots of people will opt for anti-wrinkle injections to soften strong dynamic lines.

Dermal filler plays its most important role in overall rejuvenation, mostly in restoring volume to place where it has been lost, rather than creating unnatural and artificial appearances.

Other Options & Advice:

If you are aware of all current treatment options available, either in our clinic or elsewhere, you can make the best-informed decisions about the pathway that best suits you. If we feel your particular concern may be better treated by other devices, medications, specialist opinions or surgical approaches we will be happy to let you know. We will always stand by our ethical medical aesthetic approach.

Total resurfacing laser (C02 or erbium) can help with the treatment of deeper lines.

Surgical approaches are required if expectations are high for severe sagging and these should be performed by a trusted Plastic Surgeon in Ireland so follow up is nearby eg face lift, neck lift, blepharoplasty etc.
