Lumecca Peak IPL
When it comes to skin tone correction, Lumecca Peak IPL isn’t just different- it’s better.
What is IPL?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is an advanced, non-invasive treatment that uses high-intensity light pulses to target and correct a range of skin concerns. Unlike lasers, which emit a single wavelength of light, IPL delivers multiple wavelengths to precisely target pigment, redness, and vascular irregularities within the skin, while leaving surrounding tissue unaffected.
At Fitzgerald Private Clinic, we use the industry-leading Lumecca Peak IPL by InMode, a next-generation device renowned for delivering faster, more powerful treatments with superior results. Lumecca Peak is clinically proven to improve skin tone and clarity, with visible results often achieved after just one session.
What Can It Treat?
Lumecca Peak IPL effectively addresses a wide range of skin concerns, including:
Sun damage and pigmentation (sun spots, age spots)
Facial redness and vascular lesions (rosacea, spider veins, broken capillaries)
Uneven skin tone.
Skin rejuvenation - stimulating collagen for brighter, clearer skin
It is suitable for treating areas such as the face, neck, décolletage, hands, and other sun-exposed areas.
The Procedure- What To Expect
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatments typically take between 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the area being treated and the specific skin concern. A cooling gel is applied to the skin to enhance comfort and allow the handpiece to glide smoothly. Protective eyewear is provided before we begin delivering controlled pulses of broadband light to the targeted areas. These pulses, absorbed by the skin at varying wavelengths, treat concerns such as pigmentation, redness, and sun damage. The sensation is often likened to a quick snap of an elastic band, accompanied by a gentle warmth.
Our Lumecca Peak device stands apart for its advanced built-in cooling system, which soothes the skin with every pulse and minimises discomfort. For deeper or more stubborn concerns, longer wavelengths, multiple passes, and a course of treatments may be recommended to achieve optimal results.
Pre-Treatment Advice
To ensure optimal results and minimise the risk of adverse effects:
Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanning products for 4 weeks before treatment.
Discontinue the use of retinoids, acids, and photosensitising medications 7 days prior.
Avoid waxing, threading, or depilatory creams on the treatment area for 1–2 weeks before your session.
Inform your practitioner of any medical conditions, medications, or recent skin treatments.
Post-Treatment Advice
Following your IPL session:
Avoid direct sun exposure and wear a broad-spectrum SPF 50 daily.
Refrain from using active skincare ingredients (retinols, acids, exfoliants) for 5–7 days.
Expect mild redness and warmth post-treatment, similar to sun exposure, which typically subsides within a few hours.
Pigmented lesions may darken before flaking off naturally within 7–10 days.
Avoid strenuous exercise, hot baths, and saunas for 48 hours.
Your practitioner will provide tailored aftercare based on your skin type and treatment area.
Contraindications - Who is IPL not suitable for?
IPL treatment isn’t suitable for you if:
You’re currently pregnant or breastfeeding
You have a pacemaker, defibrillator, or any electronic implant (like a glucose monitor)
You have metal plates, screws, silicone implants, or permanent fillers in the treatment area
You have a current or past history of cancer, especially skin cancer, or pre-cancerous mole
You suffer from conditions triggered by heat, such as cold sores in the treatment area (we can advise on preventative care if needed)
You have any active skin concerns in the area, like cold sores, rashes, eczema, psoriasis, open sores, or a fresh tan
You’re prone to keloid scarring, have poor wound healing, or very fragile, cracked, or infected skin
You’ve had surgery or an invasive skin procedure in the area within the last 3 months
You’ve taken Isotretinoin (Roccutane) in the last 6 months
You have a medical condition that could affect your skin’s ability to heal
The importance of a course of treatments
IPL works through cumulative, progressive results. While one session can offer visible improvement, concerns like pigmentation, redness, and sun damage develop in layers over time- and it takes a course of treatments to safely and effectively target them at different stages of the skin’s renewal cycle. Consistent sessions allow IPL to gradually break down imperfections, stimulate collagen, and deliver clearer, brighter, and longer-lasting results.
IPL vs Laser- What’s the Difference?
Both IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and laser use light-based technology to treat skin concerns, but they work in different ways. Laser uses a single, focused wavelength to target one issue at a time - ideal for hair removal or isolated vascular lesions, but limited when it comes to treating multiple tone concerns in one go.
IPL, however, uses a broad spectrum of light, allowing us to treat pigmentation, sun damage, redness, and broken capillaries in a single, effective session. Its multi-depth, multi-target approach makes it the superior choice for anyone seeking clearer, brighter, more even-toned skin.
At Fitzgerald Private Clinic, we use InMode’s Lumecca Peak IPL technology to safely and effectively refresh and correct your skin tone- delivering visible results, with minimal downtime.
